A small finger-prick test can give results for HIV and Syphilis in just one minute.

We are offering a free Train-the-Trainer course for people who want to bring this testing to their communities.

The training has been developed for migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker communities, but anyone can take part. It is for people who want testing to be done by someone they know and trust.

Getting tested regularly is an easy and important part of looking after one’s sexual health.

HIV and syphilis can both be treated, especially when found early. Starting treatment early protects a person’s health, helps keep others safe, and allows people to live a full and healthy life.

HIV and syphilis can often have no symptoms at first, so the only way to know for sure is to get tested.

  • For HIV, early diagnosis means a person can start treatment quickly. Modern HIV treatment works very well. It keeps a person healthy and means they can’t pass HIV on to others.
  • For syphilis, treatment is simple and effective, usually just a course of antibiotics. Left untreated, syphilis can cause serious health problems, but if found early, it’s easy to cure.

The training is led by two facilitators from Positive Women Inc. It has two parts:

This part teaches you about:

  • What HIV is
  • How HIV is passed from one person to another
  • How it can be treated
  • Why testing is important

You can do this training online or in person.

When this Module is finished, you will get a certificate. You need this certificate to move to Module Two.

This is an in-person session. You will learn how to:

  • Use the test kits
  • Practice testing with a certified trainer

Once you finish both modules, you can go on to become a facilitator yourself.

This means you can train others in your community, with ongoing support, resources and guidance from Positive Women Inc.

By bringing testing into trusted community spaces, we make it easier for people to take care of their sexual health with confidence and dignity. Testing is a normal, healthy choice, and a positive step for them, their family, and their community.
